Hey Guys,
Falcar might remember me, we hosted one of the orignal Obs servers that was in NZ.
I am in the final stages of getting my server ready to start hosting servers, and my clan "NightShift" is very keen on another Obs server.
Do you guys allow the COD4 servers to redirect clients to this site for the mod download? just want to be sure so when i set the server up i have it running as best it can.

You will need to setup your own redirect to your own set of files. Due to bandwidth limitations we can't allow servers to do that.

Althought no server admin is able to really prevent others from using their www-server it will probably not be fair to do so without permission.
If you can't setup a www-server for free to do this you could use our www-server to redirect your players to. I have still 2.5 TB unused traffic of 5 TB. So it will be no problem for me.
But I recommend you to contact me on Xfire for some more details and own mod dir etc. I'm from Europe btw so you have better idea when I'm online.

There are theorhetically ways to prevent it, but we don't really want to have to try implement them as it hasn't been an issue so far, and would hinder people getting the latest releases onto their servers. Would be nice if any AU providers would even allow anything near 1 TB of traffic without having to fork out stupid amounts of cash.

You can disable directory listing, but the maps and mods active used on server are still known. So it is not effective.
Yes I have 5 TB traffic. After this I get only 10mbit instead of 100mbit. But it will not coast any cash. And gameservers eating much traffic. If you have no auto server stop when your trafficlimit is reached it is possible someone evil makes you poor. Really no joke.

There are theorhetically other ways to restrict it on a mod level, but again, this would hinder servers abilities to obtain the latest versions.
We talking in the below 100GB range in Australia...so annoying.

Omg 100GB is really nothing. One of my cod4 servers got one time DoS-attacked. It generated an awsome constant outbound traffic of 4.5 mbyte/s Really a lot when you are limited so much.
