yeah. i had that problem once to. i took it to a comp tech and he fixed it up for me no problems.
He said it was to do with the firmware on the hardrive not being upto date. hope that helps.

Just happened to my laptop actually. Windows updates are ready to install, please restart your computer now. Restart. You have a disk read error, please press Ctrl. Alt. Delete and try again. -.- So yeah mine was just really old, and no the update wasn't spyware or a virus/trojan cause I use very good anti virus stuff ^.^ But yeah, depending on how dead it is, you can recover it yourself with Linux. Just run Linux from the disk, install the Kernel and then it'll let you see what's up with it. The linux operating system is free so no extra money, and if you google for help on that you'll find tons of tutorials. Just be prepared to use the console a LOT lol.

Lazer, when i turn the comp on, it doesn't recognize the Hard drive, it stays on the motherboard pic, and then comes up with this message, "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key". you see it tries to boot from the CD/DVD ROM, and the HDD doesnt get detected. (HDD = Hard Drive right?)
i've taken it to a comp pro, and hopefully he'll just have to swap over the green card. and if that doesn't work, ill go to Linux, thanks.
thanks for the ideas.
