For some reason when using any version of obscurity after 2.93b, When I try to start lan server on obscurity the game can't find any maps. It won't let me into the gametype options either. The only way I can start a server is by launching the game without mods and select the gametype and map there and then activate obscurity via the mods menu. Also, If i try to change the gametype the game crashes with the error: "No active maps found for gametype". What am I supposed to do to host a lan server without all these difficulties?

It's always on Obscurity - Team Deathmatch. If I try to change the gametype, the game crashes.

Backlot is the default map that the game revets to if theres problems exec'ing the .cfg
(or Backlot is first map in rotation XD)
Check you didnt typo the exec command in the cmd line

I've tried typing /exec obscurity_defaults on the menu and that doesn't change the fact that there are no maps displayed in the start a server menu

The problem is you cannot run a server via the Start Server screen (or whatever it is called) via the game menu's.
You need to create a desktop shortcut that launches the mod to get it to run correctly.
When you type /exec obscurity_defaults.cfg it will execute the mod file, but you still need to launch a map and set the gametype by /g_gametype obs_elim, /map mp_crash (etc).
This will run the mod, but you will not be running a server. You need to read up on how to run a dedicated or listen server via desktop shortcut. Falcar may be able to help you more, but that's the best help I can provide without being at my PC.

Thanks for the help, that seems to work. It would be a lot simpler if you could use the in game menus, but I'm just glad I can play.

/map mp_(map name, eg vacant)
...to boot up the server, then...
/exec obscurity_defaults.cfg
...and then you can change the gametype with...
/g_gametype obs_(gametype name, eg elim)
I don't see what the problem is.

You have to start up the game running the mod beforehand, otherwise it can only access the configs from the main folder rather than the mod's folder.
+set fs_game mods/mp_obs
Chuck that into your shortcut to just start up the game with the mod loaded, or access it from the menu.. if you want the whole thing done in one shot it would be something along the lines of:
"C:\Games\Call of Duty 4\iw3mp.exe" + set fs_game mods/mp_obs +exec obscurity_defaults.cfg +map_rotate after iw3mp.exe
Remember of course to check the game's path and mod name depending on what yours is set to.
^ My most boring post ever.

No need to spam! (I removed the other spam of the same post from the 5 other topics. Next time if you want an answer post once and keep it in the same topic or I will ban you)
Try adding a space after your port number command and also before your exec command:
+set dedicated 2 +set net_ip 68.232.162.156 +set sv_maxclients 20 +set ui_maxclients 20 +set net_port 28960 +set fs_game mods/obs +exec server.cfg +map_rotate

Setup your redirect in the config to get the download going faster, if you don't have a redirect server, then you will be stuck with the slow download. I don't know if the mod will work with 1.6 patch so can't help you there.
Look at Falcar's post above for directions on how your shortcut should look.

in your config you will see an area that says
set sv_allowdownload "1" set sv_wwwDownload "1" set sv_wwwBaseURL "http://myfastdownloadsite/downloads" set sv_wwwDlDisconnected "0"
Copy the above and enter in your fast downloads address. Make sure that the files on you fast download are in a folder called mods. But dont add the /mods onto your set sv_wwwBaseURL or it wont work!

The answers are stated within the thread. To run a server with a fast download, you will need to also have another ftp or website with the mod files (excluding your server config) on it. You then grab that web address and put it into the redirect address within the config file (which is stored on your server pc). Then when people join your server, they get redirected and download the files fast, and then they join your server.
If you get a lot of traffic be sure to keep an eye on your bandwidth. As for running COD4 v1.6, I would suggest upgrading to the latest version. We won't be able to provide much help or support if issues arise from an outdated version of COD4.

These links should help you out: https://www.obscuritymod.com/forum.php?thread=103#post562 https://www.obscuritymod.com/forum.php?thread=494#post4130 https://www.obscuritymod.com/forum.php?thread=103#post1589
Execute the config correctly and it will run correctly. If the mod doesn't start out in Elimination mode then if is not executing the cfg correctly via your shortcut.
Make sure you have the obscurity folder and files within the COD4/mods directory, and on your server redirect if you plan to run a dedicated server.
Start shortcut should look something like: "C:\Games\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\iw3mp.exe" +set dedicated 2 +set sv_punkbuster 1 +map mp_crash +set fs_game mods/mp_obs299d +exec obscurity_defaults.cfg +map mp_overgrown
To manually execute the config in case your start shortcut is screwed: /exec obscurity_defaults.cfg (or whatever you called the config file) /map_restart
You will need a minimum of 2 people for Elimination to start.
Change gametype by:
/rcon g_gametype obs_elim (obs_koth, obs_mar, obs_vip, obs_arm) /rcon map_restart

Have you got a dedicated server and a redirect host?
If yes, start by putting the obs folder anywhere on the redirect, and putting the obs folder within the cod4 mods folder on your server.
You will then want to open the obscurity_defaults.cfg (only needs to be on your server) and setup your password, and write in the address of your redirect files.
Start shortcut on your server should look something like this. You can right click it and edit properties to edit the start path: "Path to COD4\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\iw3mp.exe" +set dedicated 2 +set sv_punkbuster 1 +map mp_crash +set fs_game mods/mp_obs299d +exec obscurity_defaults.cfg +map mp_overgrown
To manually execute the config from within the dedicated server, in case your start shortcut is screwed: /rcon login password /rcon exec obscurity_defaults.cfg (or whatever you called the config file) /rcon map_restart
You will need a minimum of 2 people for Elimination to start.
Change gametype by:
/rcon g_gametype obs_elim (obs_koth, obs_mar, obs_vip, obs_arm) /rcon map_restart

Google search how to setup a COD4 dedicated server. It is a lot to explain. Then come and read these topics to work out how to run the mod.
Basically you need access to a server with COD4 installed and a server redirect in your selected region if you wish to run a dedicated server with mods. It costs a monthly fee to run a server in most cases.
Your best bet if you are new to dedicated hosting it to look at packages on game hosting websites that are catered to specific games and allow you to purchase a server based on the amount of player slots you want. They sell them setup based on the game you choose and allow you to install mods in most cases. I believe they usually also provide free redirect services.

I don't. I pay for it.
Best you can do is forward your ports and get everyone who wants to join to download the mod you want to play. Then run a listen server (google cod4 listen server) and tell them your IP. You could also run a dedicated server on a spare PC in your house if you have epic bandwidth allowances.
There is not much free in this day and age...

I would say that if you are in NZ, the AU server should be playable. I have removed the ping limit now. Most NZ players seem to get around 100 or so on OC1, so joining should not be an issue. I, along with a few other people tend to join in when we see some players in there.
As for joining RTX server, you are looking at around a 300+ ping based on your location.
See you around.

Using devmap in an online server will just send you into your own listen server by yourself on whatever map you typed. Once your ports are forwarded, other people 'should' be able to connect to it until you leave. Once you leave the server will shutdown.
As for port forwarding google has your answers, as it is different for every router/modem.

You do the following: • Read my previous comment
If that is too difficult: • Click in the URL prompt at the top of the screen • Type www.google.com • Press enter • Type 'Port Forwarding', press enter and wait for results to load • Click on the first result and wait for webpage to load • Click router list and wait for page to load • Find your router and click the link, again waiting for the page to load • Click on the game you want to set up port forwarding for and wait for the page to load • Follow the instructions written on the page. (If you got this far you would realise that it would have been easier to just follow the instructions in my previous post)
